The Simplest Way to Brew the Famous Chinese Pu-erh Tea
The simplest way to brew the famous Chinese Pu-erh tea is in a regular teapot or cup. By adhering to the correct sequence of steps, you'll be able to fully enjoy its exquisite and unique taste.
For 200 ml of water, an adult will need about one to one and a half spoons of tea (3 to 5 grams). If your pu-erh is pressed, simply separate the required amount of tea with a knife or by hand. Try to avoid breaking the whole tea leaf.
Pu-erh is the only tea that doesn't lose its taste and aromatic qualities when brewed with boiling water. However, it's best to use water that has boiled and started to cool, reaching a temperature of 90-95°C.
First, pour water of the indicated temperature over the tea in your teapot or cup, and after about ten seconds... pour this water out! The tea leaves must first be rinsed to remove dust and fine particles, and at the same time, to pre-hydrate them. For those who want to know how to properly brew Chinese Pu-erh tea, this step is fundamental.
After a minute, pour water of the same temperature over the tea again and steep for up to 3 minutes, then transfer the tea to a cup. Or, if it's already in a cup – transfer it to another cup; the tea should not "oversteep." For the first brew, keep the steeping time short, about one minute. Subsequently, if the taste seems too mild, carefully increase the brewing time.
You can then repeat the described procedure. The same pu-erh can be brewed up to 4 times!
