How to store Chinese tea
many articles have been written About how to choose, brew and drink tea correctly. But for some reason, very few people wonder what the storage conditions for dry tea should be. We decided to fill this gap in your knowledge and today we will tell you how to store Chinese tea.
Green and yellow tea and some white teas
Every Chinese knows that green and yellow teas see the sun 3 times in their lives. The first time – during the process of making tea, the second-when the customer chooses the desired variety, the third-just before brewing.
All the rest of the time, tea leaves are stored in the refrigerator or freezer (the optimal temperature for storing tea is minus 18 degrees). You can not store tea next to products that have a strong smell – fish, meat, sausage products. Tea packaging should be sealed (like gold bags) or have a ZIP lock.
If you bought tea in a regular store or you poured it out of a tin can, I can "please" you - this is not tea, but something completely different. And even proper storage will not help – the taste and aroma are irretrievably lost.
Oolong
You know that there are two types of Oolong – dark and light. Light Oolongs (Te Guan Yin, Milk Oolong) are stored in the same conditions as green tea – in a refrigerator and sealed packaging. But for dark Oolong-Da Hong PAO-suitable room temperature and dry room.
White (mostly number of types), red and black teas
These types of tea are the most unpretentious. After packing the leaves in special tea bags, put the tea in a regular Cabinet in the kitchen. Under such neutral conditions, the tea will not spoil and will retain its taste and aroma.
A few words should be said about the container in which the tea will be stored. Storage bags should be sealed, odorless and keep a vacuum for a long time. After opening the package, the tea must be consumed within a month, otherwise it will lose its taste and aroma. Unopened packages can be stored no longer than 6 months.
Puer
This type of tea can be stored in any room and at almost any temperature, just watch the humidity. If the room where the Puer is located is very humid, the pancake may become mildewed or rot. Dry rooms are preferable, because it is very easy to soften pressed tea – just hold it for a short time over steam.
so, let's sum up a short summary:
1. Green and yellow tea and some white teas are in the freezer.2. Light Oolong - in the freezer.
3. Dark Oolong-in the kitchen Cabinet.
4. White, black and red teas-at room temperature and moderate humidity.
5. PU-erh tea in areas with low humidity.
If you follow our recommendations and store tea correctly, its taste and aroma will delight your loved ones and you for many more days and weeks.
