Where is coffee grown?

Coffee is grown in about 50 countries, but only 6 countries are the leaders in terms of industrial production:

As you can see, most of the coffee is produced in South America. It is here that about half of the entire world harvest is obtained. Interestingly, in Brazil, which today is the largest coffee producer, it began to be grown later than in other countries. The price of coffee also plays an important role. Arabica from Brazil is one of the cheapest varieties and therefore very popular. Brazil accounts for 32-35% of global production. Colombia also produces a significant volume of products, and Colombian coffee is most appreciated among gourmets.
What is the difference between coffee from different countries?
The taste of coffee depends on the region where it is grown. The plant reacts to the composition and quality of the soil, the amount of moisture. Even the same variety grown in different climates can differ significantly in taste characteristics:
- Brazilian coffee has a balanced taste. Depending on where it is grown, it has chocolate, floral or nutty notes;
- Several varieties are produced in Colombia. This is Supremo with a rich taste and velvety aroma, Exelso with a noticeable acidity, wine tint; Extra with the perfect balance of body and body, Pico with pine notes;
- Coffee from Costa Rica is appreciated by lovers of classics. In this country, coffee trees grow on volcanic soil, so they contain a minimum amount of caffeine, and the drink itself is soft;
- Cultivars from Guatemala have a rich flavor thanks to their mountainous cultivation. One of the local types of coffee is Antigua volcanic with bitterness, smoky notes;
- The aroma of coffee from Kenya is different from other varieties, and the drink itself is very strong, with a bready taste;
- The best coffee on the African continent is made in Zambia, it is called Zambia AA Lupili. The letters AA in the name indicate the type of grains - elongated, of the same shape. It is a very rare variety, but quite unusual, with herbal, orange and caramel notes;
- In the Arabian Peninsula, coffee grows in Yemen. Its highlight is the flavor of wine and chocolate. True, such a product is produced mainly for domestic consumption, and not for export supplies;
- Zimbabwe also produces a small amount of coffee, but its taste is quite unusual. It combines light peppercorns, notes of fruit, sourness;
- Indonesian varieties are rich and strong, without sour taste, suitable for fans of strong black coffee;
- An alpine variety with unique flavors of almond, apricot and jasmine grows in Tanzania;
- Ethiopia produces tart coffee with fruit flavors;
- Coffee grows in Jamaica, from which a rum-flavored drink is obtained. The thing is that it is transported in barrels, where the rum was previously located.
Indian coffee is arabica with a rich taste and sourness, Hawaiian coffee is sweet and soft.
Inexpensive varieties
In addition to inexpensive Brazilian coffee, budget varieties include:
- A Mexican product that does not have a high strength and a luxurious bouquet;
- Peruvian – mainly used to create mixes and mixes;
- Nicaraguan – with a rich and strong taste;
- Ugandan – The local robusta is mainly used as a cheap raw material for instant coffee, but the Arabica is of high quality;
- Salvadoran – mild, with mild flavor characteristics.
Vietnam is in second place among coffee producers. At the same time, the main volume of sales is made up of blends, among which you can find options with different combinations of aroma and strength.
The type of coffee and where it is grown are the main factors that influence the taste.
